Kreative Blogger

Ha, and erratic blogger to boot! Thanks to Debby for nominating me, not sure if I'm deserving of the honour, LOL. But I appreciate the thought!

Once the award is accepted, the nominee has to do the following:

•Thank the sender for nominating you.
•make sure you link to the person who nominated you.
•Copy the logo onto your blog
•List seven interesting things about yourself.
•Nominate Seven Kreative Bloggers
•Post links to their Blogs
•Leave a comment for each letting them know of their nomination.

Hmmm, so 7 interesting things........... and if you've been reading this blog for a while or know me a little, I hope you haven't heard all of this already! Sometimes I wonder if I've run out of interesting!

1. I hate the taste of diet soft drinks.

2. People at work sometimes call me 'Doc', as in "what's up, Doc"? There's not many of us around here with a PhD, so the boys sometimes poke fun. :-)

3. I could eat perogies for breakfast, lunch and dinner if that was an option.

4. I have never broken a bone, although I have tried really really hard, and even had a tractor drive over my ankle during an accident many years ago (the ground was very soft, so the leg just sprained instead of snapping).

5. I am an old mom and had my first baby at 39. If I'd started younger, I'd have had a whack more, I think.

6. I hate winter and I hate cold. I just barely survive through the long dark season. One day at a time. Dreaming of spring already and it's still November. Sigh.

7. I am mechanically impaired. My brain simply cannot figure out how to follow instructions and build things. Even simple Lego. I delegate that to one of the males in my household.

And for seven creative bloggers, I nominate these ladies if they have time:

Holly
Jennifer
Crystal
Heather
Kim
Mylene
Sue

Next book club book

is The Glass Castle, by Jeanette Walls. It's supposed to be a fantastic read. Most people in my book club just adored The Book of Negroes, by the way. An amazing, easy to read, thought provoking story. Highly recommended!

From various websites: "This memoir opens with a scene of Jeannette's homeless mother rooting through garbage cans. Jeannette, on her way to a society dinner, catches sight of her and hopes her mother doesn't see her. In her memoir, freelance writer Jeannette Walls tells of being raised by a father who drifted from town to town, picking up work or gambling their meager savings away, and an artist mother who went along for the ride. Walls and her three siblings grew up in poverty, without social norms. Yet Jeannette climbed out of this life and into a successful career in New York City. The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette's brilliant and charismatic father captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn't want the responsibility of raising a family".

Sounds intriguing! I look forward to reading it.

Layouts

Photos from practicing for the close up photography course I took this spring! Stamps are Cathie's choice from the fall 2009 Canadian Scrapbooker magazine - a gorgeous set from Impression Obsession.

Yummy SEI papers and diecuts; reddish snowflakes are made by rolling out Crayola model magic and pressing an inked snowflake stamp into it.

I had a whole bunch of extra photos from our first vacation to Vancouver Island(apparently duplicates seemed like a good idea at the time!), so I cut some circles using a Spellbinders nestability die and made a layout out of them! Various stamps, glitter, Stickles glitter glue sparkles things up somewhat. (of course, everything in the house is a bit sparkly after I have been using glitter). This layout was lots of fun to make, and a good project to use up a large handful of photos.

Migraines

Yuck. Who gets them? I used to get moderately bad migraines regularly when I was younger, and was only getting them occasionally in the last few years. Thought I must be 'growing' out of them, and then had the worst headache ever on Saturday. Lost the whole day and night, couldn't stand, couldn't move, couldn't function. Threw up at any opportunity. Nice way to spend the weekend! ;-) And now it's like a ticking time bomb......... I wonder if a headache that severe is going to happen again and what triggered it? Was it the delicious Mexican food I pigged out on at a scrapbook crop? Was it the glass of red wine I had later? Sigh. Sorry, just whining. I hate not being able to predict what's going to happen, and of course we are all too busy to just erase a couple of days by being sick.

Lego

I love Lego. And those of you that have been reading my blog for a while might remember I just adore Lego advent calendars. I popped onto the Lego site to see what other treasures they might have and saw these:

Aren't they cute? Sixty seven pieces of Lego to build three Santa's, and the clear balls to hang them in. :-)

Keep your eyes peeled

These are starting to filter into people's mailboxes, so they will soon to be coming to a store or mailbox near you! I can't to wait to read mine! I was able to help out during some of the photography shoots for these magazines, and I know there are some amazing projects and articles to look forward to. The publication of Canadian Scrapbooker Basics #5 is a bit bittersweet for me - since it is the last issue of the Basics series, my workload will drop considerably as we just go back to publishing the regular Canadian Scrapbooker magazine. But I enjoyed working on Basic assignments so much! I relish a challenge, and especially enjoyed projects for CSB #1 that only used basic supplies, and projects for CSB#5 which used all kinds of unusual tools and embellishments - everything from hot glue to polymer clay. It's always good to have a challenge!

A Good Read

For my reading friends, I stumbled across this book a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it immensely! I highly recommend it! It's a fairly quick read with plenty of laugh out loud moments, a humourous murder mystery if you will. It features a precocious 11 year old detective, Flavia de Luce, who has a passion for chemistry. And what a character she is, hopefully she will be brought back in future books!

From book reviews: "A thoroughly entertaining romp of a novel, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is inventive and quick-witted, with tongue-in-cheek humour that transcends the macabre seriousness of its subject".

More Layouts

I have been scrapbooking like crazy for the last couple of weeks. Hmmm, must have something to do with impending deadlines for a few articles and assignments! I always seem to work best with a deadline, but am looking forward to this weekend, when I go off for a few days with my friends and just scrapbook for me. And I might squeeze in a massage or a pedicure in the spirit of relaxation. :-)

Here's a few more of my favourite layouts that were published this fall:

This layout features Fancy Pants chipboard and paper, and a handful of those metal label frames! Feels good to use them, they were collecting a bit of dust in my stash.

Basic layout with American Crafts stuff!

Glizt Designs paper and a lot of dingbats printed out on my computer and coloured with a marker

Nice way to use some Prima flowers!

Love the rich colours on this one - yummy Rose Moka paper, Coredinations cardstock roughed up with an edge distressor and a Glitz Designs rub-on birdie

Painting with Light

Hey, check out the new Hands On Photography assignment at the Canadian Scrapbooker website. Painting with light (or Light Graffiti as it is also called) is a very cool technique! A good way to impress your friends and yourself! :-) Read the tutorial, give it a try and be sure to enter your photos for a chance to win the prize pack this month.
